Abigail & Joshua Osborne
The Osborne Family is a beloved family here in the Valley, across Alaska, and beyond. The two youngest members of this family, Josh and Abby Osborne, recently took jobs on a fishing vessel outside of Kodiak. Thursday morning, June 29th, at 7:30am a wave struck the boat, capsizing it. The other two members of the crew were pulled from the water quickly by a second boat traveling with them but it was not believed that Josh and Abby escaped the vessel. The Coast Guard was called and a massive search and rescue effort began. Site conditions created several delays and the area of the boat where they were believed to be located was inaccessible and only partially visible during the search.
Friday at 6pm the search mission, having exhausted all known options and having exceeded any expected survival times in our dangerous waters, was suspended and a salvage mission was initiated. The boat was then righted by a crane barge and the water removed. It was in this step that it could be confirmed that Josh and Abby were still on board. The vessel was then taken to Kodiak by the crane barge where the final questions would be answered.
This has been an incredibly difficult road for the family and the amazing support of friends, loved ones, and even virtual strangers across the nation has truly been a source of comfort. Your continued prayers are greatly appreciated.
